The Smorgasbord story
My name is Anthony Bullen – but, please, call me Tone. Born in Perth but made in Marrickville, I make my living as a freelance graphic designer and creative director.
While I work on-call for a number of Sydney agencies, I also have clients I design for directly. To cater for these "backdoor" projects, I founded my design studio – Smorgasbord Creative – in the summer of 2010, and have had the great pleasure of working with some of Sydney's sharpest small business operators ever since.
Smorgasbord was born from a love what good branding can do.
It can take a company – or a service, or an event – and make it memorable. Distinctive. Understood. Wanted.
It can give it depth. They're no longer just a random name – good branding broadens them into a fully-fledged story.
It can be a great strategic tool. It can be a nimble way to gain distance on competitors, and wring every last drop of value out of an unrepeatable opportunity.
Often, it's also about building something up from scratch, and this process of creating is, typically, intensely rewarding for both sides. There's no finer feeling than the thrill of cracking the plastic wrap on your first set of business cards. It's little moments like this that make us remember why we got into business in the first place.
